Whether it’s out of admiration or mere curiosity, it’s certain that everyone is intrigued by Elon Musk. From the highly anticipated cage fight with the founder of Meta, to completely transforming Twitter and renaming it X, and even taking on competitors with unique strategies, we’ve seen some strange moves from other companies as well. Among these companies is Google. Let’s take a look at their latest Elon Musk-like policies…
Google is telling its employees to “stay in the office”!
Google is trying to encourage its employees to return to the office by offering a special deal for its on-campus hotel in Mountain View, California. The exclusive event, running until September 30th, serves as another initiative to establish Google’s hybrid work-from-home program as the new norm. However, there seems to be a contradiction.
Let’s say you’re a Google employee. Your company has a massive campus, and they are building a new hotel inside it, aiming to make office workers more productive without leaving the campus. But here’s the catch: They are asking for $99 per night for you to stay at this hotel. Do you think it makes sense?
Many people have commented in forums and discussions related to this issue, questioning things like “Am I supposed to pay to stay where I already receive my salary to work?” Google has sent advertising emails to its employees and placed ads all over the campus to encourage them to stay at the hotel. In addition, they are organizing events to persuade employees to use the hotel accommodations.
Google claims that by providing all the amenities at this hotel, they want to improve the concept of hybrid work and allow employees to work more comfortably. However, some comments have drawn parallels with Elon Musk’s strategy of putting a few beds in the Twitter office to encourage employees to work without leaving the premises. Google has not issued any official statement on the matter, so we will have to wait for further updates in the coming days.
